Who are we?
We are a
part of the denomination of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We believe
in unity with diversity. We accept Jesus as our personal
Savior and believe Him to be the greatest revelation of
God and God's love. We celebrate communion every week
and baptize by immersion. We
are an open congregation which means that we accept
people of all baptisms and all people who believe that
Jesus is the Christ are invited to participate in the
communion celebration. People of all faiths and church
backgrounds are welcome to join us for worship.
Gender Road
Christian Church is actually a story of two churches
united ... each with long histories. Scottwood
Congregational and Southeast Christian agreed in 1997 to
fully unite. This was but another historical moment in
the long history of both congregations. The history of
Scottwood dates back to 1843 and Southeast traces its
roots back to 1898. Through the years each church grew
in numbers and changed locations several times. The
agreement to merge and work together to develop a
ministry on Gender Road is but a continuation of our
commitment to do God's work. Ground was broken for our
current facility on August 3, 1997. A short two years
later the first worship services were held here on June
20, 1999.
Our "Vision"
2000 solidly founded on prayer is a bold response to
God's call for this community of faith to become a
gathering place where all might discover love,
acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness, guidance, and
encouragement.
We seek to
help each person to grow toward spiritual maturity
through worship, opportunities for Christian education,
groups for fellowship and study, and many mission task
forces. God's vision for us offers each one an
opportunity to use his/her gifts in a variety of
ministries.
You are
invited to be a part of the vision! |
